09 · Can every suburb shop?

Can every Dallas-area home choose a provider?

10 · Summer bills

Why are Dallas electric bills so high in summer?

Air conditioning is a major use of power in hot places. North Texas summers can push use far past 1,000 kWh. More use means a bigger bill, even on a cheap plan.

  1. Set it a bit higherEach degree warmer cuts cooling costs. Ceiling fans help you feel cooler.
  2. Block the afternoon sunShade west windows and seal leaks to keep cool air in.
  3. Price your plan at 2,000 kWhSummer use can double. Check what your plan costs at higher use.

Should I pick a short or long plan in Dallas?

Short plans often look cheaper, but the price can jump when they end. Long plans lock your rate, but leaving early can cost a fee. If you plan to stay put, a 12-month or longer flat plan with a fair cancel fee is often safer.
