01 · The timeline

What happened to Mosaic?

Mosaic started in 2010. It became one of the biggest home solar lenders, with more than $15 billion in loans. Then home solar sales fell, and Mosaic ran out of room.

  1. Mosaic files for bankruptcy in the Southern District of Texas. It says it plans to keep servicing loans.
  2. Solar Servicing, owned by Forbright Bank, takes over Mosaic’s loan servicing.
  3. Mosaic winds down what’s left. It no longer makes new loans.

Mosaic’s fall hit installers too. When Freedom Forever filed in 2026, it owed Mosaic about $114 million. See the Freedom Forever guide, or what to do when your installer fails.

Got a Servicing Transition letter? Mosaic sold your loan to an investor that picked a different servicer. Use the contact details in that letter instead.

Installer failed before the job was done? Ask the servicer in writing about relief, like a pause. After Pink Energy closed, two states asked five solar lenders, Mosaic among them, to pause payments. Keep paying until you have an answer in writing.
04 · Loan traps

What Mosaic loan traps should I watch for?

Three problems catch Mosaic borrowers most. Each one has a fix if you act early.

  1. Payment jumpsMany solar loans raise your payment after 18 months unless you prepay the tax credit amount, the CFPB warns.
  2. Selling your homeSolar loans often come with a lien. Ask Solar Servicing for a payoff letter before you list.
  3. Credit report errorsCanceled loans can still show up. Dispute errors with each credit bureau.
Check your loan papers today. Look for a prepayment date, the payoff amount and any lien filing. Ask Solar Servicing to explain anything you don’t understand, in writing.

05 · Unfinished project

My Mosaic project was never finished. What now?

This is the hardest case. Your loan may be only partly paid out to your installer. Solar Servicing says a special team is working on these.

Projects that got no money at all were closed, Mosaic says. Installers were told to help those customers find other financing. Questions about a project still in the pipeline go to support@joinmosaic.com, Solar Servicing’s FAQ says. Keep every contract, email and photo.
06 · Claims

Do I need to file a claim in Mosaic’s bankruptcy?

Most borrowers don’t. If you’re just paying your loan, nothing changes. If you believe Mosaic owes you money, check the case website for rules and deadlines.

  1. Find the caseMosaic’s case website is run by Kroll, its case agent.
  2. Check deadlinesEach case sets dates for claims. Ask what applies to you.
  3. Use Form 410The official proof of claim form, with your records attached.
07 · Red flags

What warning signs came before Mosaic’s bankruptcy?

Mosaic’s trouble was tied to the whole solar loan market. Regulators warned first.

  1. The federal consumer finance agency warned about solar loan traps, like payments that jump after 18 months.
  2. Mosaic filed for bankruptcy the same day as Sunnova, a sign of deep trouble in solar lending.
  3. Solar Servicing took over its loans and set up a team for loans that were only partly paid out.

08 · Scam warning

How do I protect my Mosaic loan from scams?

Big bankruptcies bring scams. With Mosaic, the most common one is a fake “new account” for your payments. Watch for these three.

  1. A “new account” for paymentsPay only the servicer on your statement or in a Servicing Transition letter. Check any change at (866) 493-6367.
  2. Calls asking for your loginNever give your password to a caller. Hang up, then call the number on an old statement.
  3. “Loan relief” for a feeScammers ofer to shrink or erase solar loans for an upfront fee. Ask your servicer or legal aid first.

09 · Quick answers

Mosaic bankruptcy questions, answered

Did Mosaic go out of business?

Mosaic filed for bankruptcy on June 6, 2025, and is winding down. It no longer makes new loans. But its loans live on. On September 22, 2025, Solar Servicing, a company owned by Forbright Bank, took over servicing Mosaic loans.

Who services Mosaic solar loans now?

Solar Servicing LLC, a company owned by Forbright Bank. It took over Mosaic’s loan servicing on September 22, 2025. It said it would keep servicing loans as usual, so borrowers can keep paying and loan owners keep getting paid. Check your latest statement for its contact details.

Do I still have to pay my Mosaic loan?

Yes. Mosaic says borrowers must keep paying under the same terms and schedule as their loan agreement. Mosaic’s bankruptcy didn’t erase what you owe. Keep paying the way you always have, unless the servicer tells you otherwise in writing. A missed payment can still be reported to the credit bureaus.

Did my Mosaic loan terms change?

No. Forbright Bank said borrowers’ payment terms and schedules stay the same. Mosaic’s payment methods are still active. If anyone tells you your terms changed, confirm it with a number you already trust before you act. Your rate and monthly payment should stay the same.

How do I pay my Mosaic loan now?

The same way as before. Log in to your loan account, or mail your payment to the address Mosaic lists: P.O. Box 78080, Phoenix, AZ 85062-8080. Save every statement and receipt, and note each payment date. If you have questions, call the servicer before your due date.

What happens to a Mosaic loan for an unfinished project?

If your loan was only partly paid out, Solar Servicing hired a special team to work with installers and loan owners on a fix. Mosaic says projects that got no money were closed. Keep every contract, email and photo. Ask the servicer for answers in writing.

Is Solar Servicing legit?

Yes. Solar Servicing LLC is a company owned by Forbright Bank. It announced it had taken over Mosaic’s loan servicing after the court approved Mosaic’s plan. Still, check any call or letter with a number you already trust. Never share your login with someone who calls you.

Can I stop paying my Mosaic loan because my installer went bankrupt?

Not on its own. Your loan is a separate contract from your installer. If work was never done, contact Solar Servicing and keep records. A consumer lawyer or legal aid can look at your options before you stop any payment.

Is Mosaic still making new loans?

No. Solar Servicing said it has no plans to make new solar loans. It is servicing loans that already exist. Installers were told to help customers with unfunded projects find other financing. If you’re shopping for solar now, compare other lenders carefully.

Why did Mosaic go bankrupt?

Mosaic pointed to a hard market for home solar. Home solar installs fell 31% in 2024, and doubt about federal solar tax credits hit the industry. Before filing, Mosaic tried to cut costs to stay afloat. It filed for bankruptcy in June 2025.

What is the Mosaic loan phone number now?

Mosaic loans are serviced by Solar Servicing, which lists (866) 493-6367 and loanservicing@solarservicingllc.com. Got a Servicing Transition letter? Then your loan was sold to an investor that uses another servicer, so call the number in that letter instead.

How do I avoid Mosaic loan scams?

Be careful with anyone who calls you first or says to pay a new account. Hang up, and call the servicer at a number from an old statement. Never share your login. Report scams to your state attorney general. Real servicers won’t pressure you to pay on the spot.

Can I sell my house with a Mosaic loan?

Yes, but plan ahead. Many solar loans come with a lien on the system, often called a UCC lien. Ask Solar Servicing for a payoff letter early. You’ll usually pay off the loan at closing, then get the lien released. Start before you list your home.

Why did my Mosaic payment go up?

Many solar loans are built to raise the payment after about 18 months unless you prepay an amount equal to the tax credit, the CFPB says. Even people who pay on time can get surprised. Check your loan papers for the prepayment date and amount.

My canceled Mosaic loan is still on my credit report. What can I do?

Dispute it with each credit bureau that shows it, and include your cancellation papers. Ask Solar Servicing to correct it in writing. If it isn’t fixed, file a complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Keep copies of everything you send.
