Find your electric company by ZIP
Type the five digits. The finder names your company, gives its outage phone number, and shows its price to compare as of the date under the tool. If your ZIP is split, it shows each company, so you can match the name on your bill.

Utility list: NREL and EIA service-territory data. Prices as of October 24, 2026, from PA Power Switch. A ZIP code can sit in more than one service area, and a few boroughs run their own electric system that this list may miss. Your bill has the last word.
This names the company that usually delivers power to your ZIP code. It is not an address check. The name on your bill always wins, and a few boroughs run their own system that this list may not know.
Which company serves which part of Pennsylvania?
Pennsylvania's big companies each cover a region. The PUC lists eleven electric companies. Eight are large and three are small. This table shows each one's main area, who to call when the lights go out, and the price it charges if you pick no supplier.
| Company | Main area | Outage phone | Price to compare (cents per kWh) |
|---|---|---|---|
| PECO | Philadelphia and its suburbs, Chester, Coatesville | 1-800-841-4141 | 11.759 |
| PPL Electric | Allentown, Harrisburg, Lancaster, Scranton, Williamsport | 1-800-342-5775 | 13.079 |
| Duquesne Light | Pittsburgh and nearby towns | 1-888-393-7000 | 14.140 |
| Met-Ed | Reading, York, Lebanon, Easton | 1-888-544-4877 | 13.951 |
| Penelec | Erie, Altoona, Johnstown, DuBois | 1-888-544-4877 | 13.142 |
| Penn Power | New Castle, Sharon, Hermitage | 1-888-544-4877 | 13.477 |
| West Penn Power | Greensburg, Washington, Uniontown, State College | 1-888-544-4877 | 12.075 |
| UGI Electric | The Wilkes-Barre and Berwick areas | 1-800-276-2722 | 12.615 |
| Citizens' Electric of Lewisburg | Lewisburg and nearby towns | 570-524-2231 | On your bill |
| Wellsboro Electric | Wellsboro and nearby towns | 570-724-3516 | On your bill |
| Pike County Light & Power | Milford and Matamoras area | 1-855-855-2433 | On your bill |
The phone numbers are the outage and downed-line numbers on the PUC's own list, read Oct. 25, 2026. Met-Ed, Penelec, Penn Power and West Penn Power are four FirstEnergy companies, so they share one outage number. PECO is part of Exelon. The prices are the ones PA Power Switch showed on October 24, 2026. Our price to compare guide has the next change dates.
Is my electric company the same as my supplier?
Your electric company, also called your utility, delivers the power. A supplier sells the energy. A home that picks a supplier pays two companies. A home that does not pays only its utility, which sells the energy at the price to compare.
Call your electric company for an outage, a meter problem or a downed line. Call your supplier about a contract, a price or a cancel fee. The PUC says your utility always remains your delivery company, even after you switch.
What if my ZIP shows two companies?
A ZIP code is a mail route. It is not a utility map. Where two companies meet, one ZIP can hold homes from both, and the line between them can run down a street. A neighbor can have a different company than you.
On Oct. 25, 2026 we typed test ZIPs into the PUC's own lookup on PA Power Switch. For 16101 in New Castle, it asked us to choose between Penelec and Penn Power. For 19601 in Reading, it offered Met-Ed and PPL. Both are real splits, not mistakes.
- Look at the top of your billThe company name and logo are there. This is the answer.
- Match it to a cardThe finder above shows a card for each company that touches your ZIP.
- Still not sure? Call the PUCThe PUC's consumer line is 1-800-692-7380.
- Or ask the companyGive each candidate your street address. The one that serves it will say so.
Can I pick my own supplier?
It depends on who owns the wires. If your company is on the PUC's list of eleven, you can pick a supplier. Rural electric co-ops and utilities run by a city, a borough or a township are not under the PUC, and the PUC has no say over their service.
| Who sends your bill | Can you pick a supplier? | Who to ask |
|---|---|---|
| One of the eleven companies above | Yes, with a few exceptions | PA Power Switch lists the offers |
| A rural electric co-op | Usually no. Ask your co-op | The co-op itself |
| A borough or town electric system | No. The town sets the price | The borough office |
| A home in the Customer Assistance Program | No, while enrolled | Your utility |
The finder marks each company by type. If your bill comes from a co-op or a town, the offers on PA Power Switch will not apply to you. Ask your co-op or borough office what it offers.
How can I tell who serves my address?
A ZIP code gets you close. Your address gets you exact. These are the checks, from fastest to surest.
- 1Read your bill.
The company named at the top, or on the delivery charges, is your electric company.
- 2Use the finder above.
It names each company that touches your ZIP and shows a card for each.
- 3Check with the PUC.
Type your ZIP into the lookup on PA Power Switch. It is the state's own tool, and it asks you to choose when a ZIP is split.
- 4Call the company.
Give your street address. This is the only check that settles a street where two companies meet.
If you are moving, ask the new owner or the landlord for a recent bill. Or call the company you think serves the address and ask for its start-service line.
What should I do once I know my company?
Your company's price to compare is the number every supplier offer has to beat. Write it down. Then test each offer, fees included, against it.
- Find your company's price to compare in the table above, or on your bill.
- Test any supplier offer against it before you sign.
- Set a reminder for your utility's next price change.
- Do not cancel your utility service to switch. Your utility keeps delivering your power whichever supplier you pick.
- Do not give your account number to a door-to-door seller until you have read the written terms.
When you pick a supplier, your electric company still reads your meter, fixes your lines and sends or shares your bill. A switch usually takes about three business days after your utility is told. The PUC's rules give you three business days to cancel after you get the written terms.
Where does this list come from?
The ZIP list comes from public service-territory data. The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) collects which utilities serve which counties. The U.S. National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) matched that data to ZIP areas. That is the 2020 edition, the newest one NREL has posted. We turned it into a small file and kept the script that builds it.
A ZIP-area match is not a street map, so it lists every company that touches the ZIP. That is why many Pennsylvania ZIPs show more than one name. Most of the extras are tiny edges where one company's area barely crosses the ZIP line.
We checked it. On Oct. 25, 2026 we typed 17 Pennsylvania ZIP codes into the PUC's own lookup. For 16 of them our list held the same company, or both when the PUC asked you to choose. For 16101 it missed Penelec, so we fixed it by hand. Those 17 answers now override the raw data, and we add to them as we check more.
What this finder does not know: a borough that runs its own electric system, a new ZIP code, and a street where two companies meet. The name on your bill beats every list, ours included. The phone numbers and company names come from the PUC's own list. The prices come from PA Power Switch and move on their own.
Now you know your company. Look up its price to compare and see which supplier offers beat it, using the plan finder.

Questions, answered
How can I tell which electric company services my address?
Read the company name at the top of your bill. If you have no bill, type your ZIP into the finder above. If your ZIP shows two companies, call each with your street address, or ask the PUC at 1-800-692-7380.
Is PECO the only electric company in PA?
No. PECO delivers power around Philadelphia. The PUC lists eleven electric companies in Pennsylvania, including PPL Electric, Duquesne Light and four FirstEnergy companies. A few co-ops and boroughs run their own lines too.
Who provides electricity to Pennsylvania?
Two kinds of companies. An electric company delivers it, and the PUC lists eleven. A supplier sells the energy, and 47 had offers on PA Power Switch on October 24, 2026.
Who is the cheapest electric supplier in PA?
It changes every day, so no company holds the title. On October 24, 2026, about 34% of the offers on PA Power Switch were priced under their utility's price to compare. Test any offer against your own price, fees included. Our supplier ranking scores the companies.
Who is my electric company by ZIP code?
Type your ZIP into the finder above. It names the company, gives its outage phone number and shows its price to compare. If the ZIP is split, it shows each company that touches it, and your bill decides.
Is my electric company the same as my electric supplier?
Not always. Your electric company delivers the power and keeps the wires. Your supplier sells the energy. You can change your supplier, and you cannot change your electric company.
Can I switch my electric company in Pennsylvania?
No. Your electric company follows your address. You can switch your supplier, and PA Power Switch lists the offers. Your utility keeps delivering the power either way.
What if my power comes from a co-op or a borough?
The PUC does not regulate rural co-ops or utilities run by a city, a borough or a township. Supplier offers on PA Power Switch will not apply. Ask your co-op or borough office about your rates and any choices.
