Who provides electricity in Fort Worth?
In most of Fort Worth, Oncor carries the power and you pick the company that sells it. Your pick sets the price, sends the bill and answers billing questions. Oncor keeps the lines up for all of them.
One of two sellers with a Fort Worth address on file with the PUCT. It holds the state’s top complaint rating, and we score it 82 out of 100.
The other local seller, and one of only two that list prepaid plans here. The state puts it in the highest-complaint group, and we score it 60.
Most of the 44 are based elsewhere. Of the 37 licenses behind them, only five list a Dallas-Fort Worth address with the PUCT: three in Irving, all owned by Vistra, and the two in Fort Worth. Statewide, the PUCT counts 141 active retail electric providers, but only some post plans for homes. See who’s missing.

The state rating comes from the PUCT complaint scorecard dated September 2026, which ranks complaints per 1,000 customers from March 1 through August 31, 2026; Power to Choose displays it. “Our score” appears only where we’ve published a review. Simple plans here are 12-month fixed-rate plans without bill credits, usage charges or time-of-use pricing. The cents per kWh are fact-label averages at 500, 1,000 and 2,000 kWh, Oncor delivery included and taxes left out, and monthly costs between those points are estimates.

One seller isn’t in the table: Think Energy. We earn money when people join Think’s plans through Think+, so our rules keep it out of the rankings, the picks and our scores. Power to Choose listed 3 Think plans for Oncor’s area on Oct 15, 2026, with a state complaint rating of 2 of 5.
Can’t find your company?
It may sell only on its own site. On Oct 15, 2026, these licensed sellers posted no plans for Oncor’s area on Power to Choose: Ambit and 4Change Energy (both Vistra), XOOM Energy and Stream (both NRG), Town Square Energy (Genie Energy), Tesla Electric, Shell Energy Solutions and Energywell. Before signing with Ambit or 4Change, see our Ambit review and 4Change review.
Which Fort Worth companies lean on bill credits?
Nine of them. For these companies, the cheapest 12-month plan on Power to Choose gets its low price from a bill credit. The credit pays only once your usage reaches a set level, 1,000 kWh for most of them. In a mild month, the same plan can cost two or three times as much per kWh.
Fact-label prices per kWh from Power to Choose, Oct 15, 2026, Oncor delivery included. Just Energy’s Smart Choice, Amigo’s Power Perks and Tara’s Value Choice 12-month plans list identical prices. Bars start at zero.
A top rating doesn’t rule out a credit plan. Spark, TXU and Constellation all hold 5 of 5, and their cheapest listed plans still depend on credits. Price a plan at your lowest month, not your average one. Our Fort Worth electricity rates guide shows how the credits work, plan by plan.
What does a better complaint rating cost you in Fort Worth?
Less than you might think. Here’s the cheapest simple 12-month plan in each of the state’s five rating groups. The gap from the cheapest plan overall to a 4-of-5 company was just 0.4¢ per kWh.
Lowest-priced simple plan within each group, from Power to Choose on Oct 15, 2026. Bars start at zero.
The math at 1,000 kWh a month. Choosing Gexa’s 4-of-5 plan over True Power’s 1-of-5 plan costs about $4 a month. Spark, the cheapest 5-of-5 pick, costs about $12 a month more than True Power, or $144 a year.
Across all 44 companies, the state rated 9 at 5 of 5, 8 at 4 of 5, 9 at 3 of 5, 8 at 2 of 5 and 7 at 1 of 5. The other 3 weren’t on the scorecard yet. A few things to know about those ratings:
- An owner doesn’t pass its rating down. Via Renewables owns both Spark Energy and Texans Choice Power, but they hold separate licenses. Spark is rated 5 of 5; Texans Choice isn’t rated yet.
- A shared license shares its rating. Revolution Energy and Infuse Energy sell under one license, and both show 5 of 5.
- Size is evened out. The state compares complaints per 1,000 customers, so a big company and a small one can be rated side by side.
- Any complaint counts. The PUCT includes complaints whether or not the company turned out to be at fault.
Look up raw complaint numbers in Texas electricity company complaints, or see how we score companies.
Which Fort Worth electric brands share an owner?
More than you’d guess from the names. Company filings tie 17 of the 44 brands to just five parent companies, and several more pairs share a single state license.

Same price isn’t proof of the same owner. NextEra’s Gexa, Frontier and Companion each list a simple 12-month plan at 12.4¢ per kWh. So does Octopus Energy, which belongs to Britain’s Octopus Energy Group. That’s why we name owners only from filings, never from prices.
BKV Energy, the top-rated local seller, belongs to a joint venture that BKV Corp. owns 75% and Banpu Power US owns 25%, company filings show. Payless Power’s parent wasn’t named in the public filings we read.
Which Fort Worth electric company should you pick?
Start from what you want. Every pick uses the state’s ratings, each plan’s fact label and our public-records scores. No company paid to be here.
Based in Fort Worth, rated 5 of 5, and scored 82 by us. Its Daisy 12 plan was 14.1¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh and barely moved at 500 kWh, at 14.5¢.
Choose 12 was 13.2¢ at 1,000 kWh. Skip Spark’s Sure Saver 12 unless you never dip below 1,000 kWh; it’s a credit plan.
A 100% renewable plan, Gexa Eco Choice 12, at 12.4¢ per kWh, from a company rated 4 of 5. We score Gexa 74.
Our top score, 96 out of 100, and rated 5 of 5. Champ Saver-12 was 14.3¢ at 1,000 kWh.
Each score is out of 100 and uses the same public-records formula. 90 and up is Excellent, 80s Very good, 70s Good, 60s Fair, and below 60 Poor. Compare every score.
Before you sign up
Worth knowing before you shop. On Oct 15, 2026, 141 of the 176 plans in Oncor’s area were open to new customers only, so staying put can mean missing them. A 12-month plan you start this month runs until October 2027. And Oncor’s delivery charge went up on bills from Oct 4, 2026, which every company passes along.

Oncor, a co-op or your company: who handles what?
It depends on the problem. Lines and outages belong to whoever owns the wires. Prices and bills belong to the company you chose.
Texting OUT to 66267 works too. Oncor’s storm center map shows outages and repair estimates.
Its phone number is printed on your bill and on the plan’s fact label. If it won’t fix a billing problem, the PUCT takes complaints at 1-888-782-8477.
On a co-op instead? Tri-County Electric takes outage calls at 817-444-3201, and United Cooperative Services at 817-447-9292 in the Burleson area. More outage help: what to do when the power goes out.
Own a Fort Worth-area house with no solar? Our partner Think+ offers an Energywell home battery with no upfront cost for the battery or a standard install. The catch: you buy your power from Energywell at a fixed rate for 1 or 5 years, plus $19 a month and delivery. Through Oct 31, 2026, Think+ is waiving the refundable $99 reservation fee.
See who qualifies, the catch and the real costDoes this list apply at your Fort Worth-area address?
Inside Fort Worth, almost always. Out toward Weatherford, Granbury, Burleson or Azle, it depends on whose lines reach your street. A ZIP can show plans even where some homes can’t choose.
Covers ZIP codes in Tarrant, Parker, Johnson, Wise and Hood counties. One ZIP can include more than one utility, so trust the name on your bill. We don’t save your ZIP.
For a street-by-street co-op check, our Fort Worth electricity rates guide walks through it, and who is my electric utility shows where to find the name on your bill.
What are the red flags in a Fort Worth electricity offer?
Three warning signs, and two good ones. You can spot all five on paperwork the company must hand you.
- 1Red flag: a price that only works at 1,000 kWh
Compare the 500 and 1,000 kWh lines on the fact label. A big gap means a credit you can lose.
- 2Red flag: a fee for using too little
Some plans add a charge in months under a set usage. The fact label lists it with the price.
- 3Red flag: a door-to-door seller with no license number
State rules say a seller’s ID badge must show the company’s PUCT certificate number and a toll-free number.
- 4Good sign: one price at any usage
Plans like Rhythm’s Digital Choice 12 cost about the same per kWh at 500, 1,000 and 2,000 kWh.
- 5Good sign: a small exit fee
Look for a low early-cancel fee, or one that shrinks each month, like $20 for each month left.
Changed your mind after switching? You can cancel within 3 federal business days of getting your terms, at no cost; this doesn’t cover move-ins. Switching itself is free, and the details are in how to switch electricity providers.
Fort Worth electric company questions, answered
Each answer comes from state records or the companies’ own paperwork.
How many electric companies are there in Fort Worth?
On Oct 15, 2026, 44 companies offered plans in Fort Worth’s Oncor area on Power to Choose, 176 plans in all. More sell in Texas without posting plans there, and Oncor counts over 100 retail companies on its lines.
Who provides electricity in Fort Worth?
Oncor Electric Delivery owns the lines in most of Fort Worth, and you choose the company that sells you power. Some homes at the edges of the metro get power from a co-op, such as Tri-County or United, or a city system, and those homes can’t choose.
Which electricity providers are the cheapest in Fort Worth?
APG&E had the lowest advertised price on Oct 15, 2026: 6.2¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh on a 3-month plan, but 19.1¢ at 500 kWh. For a simple 12-month plan, True Power was cheapest at 12.0¢. Both companies are rated 1 of 5 by the state.
Which Fort Worth electric company has the fewest complaints?
Nine companies share the state’s best rating, 5 of 5: BKV Energy, Champion, Constellation, Good Charlie, Infuse, NEC Co-op Energy, Revolution, Spark and TXU Energy. The PUCT sorts companies by complaints per 1,000 customers, so these had the lowest rates from March to August 2026.
Are any electric companies based in Fort Worth?
Two of the 44 list a Fort Worth address with the PUCT: BKV Energy, rated 5 of 5, and Payless Power, rated 1 of 5. Vistra’s TXU, TriEagle, Express and Veteran list addresses in nearby Irving.
Which Fort Worth companies rely on bill credits?
For nine companies, the cheapest 12-month plan on Oct 15, 2026 was a bill-credit plan: APG&E, Chariot, Express, Spark, TXU, Just Energy, Amigo, Tara and Constellation. Those prices hold only when you use enough power to earn the credit.
Which Fort Worth electric companies have the same owner?
NRG owns five brands here, from Reliant to Discount Power. Vistra owns TXU, TriEagle, Express and Veteran. NextEra owns Gexa, Frontier and Companion, IGS Energy owns the Just Energy brands, and Constellation owns Champion. Via Renewables owns Spark and Texans Choice Power.
Why can’t I find Ambit or 4Change Energy in Fort Worth?
Neither posted plans for Oncor’s area on Power to Choose on Oct 15, 2026. Both are Vistra brands that are still licensed and sell on their own, and Ambit uses independent consultants. Our reviews of each explain what to check first.
Which companies offer prepaid electricity in Fort Worth?
Only Payless Power and Pronto Power listed prepaid plans for Oncor’s area on Oct 15, 2026. The state rates both 1 of 5. Our no-deposit and prepaid guide covers other ways around a deposit.
What is the cheapest 100% renewable plan in Fort Worth?
Four simple 12-month plans tied at 12.4¢ per kWh on Oct 15, 2026, from Gexa, Rhythm, Energy Texas and Octopus. Gexa is rated 4 of 5, Rhythm and Energy Texas 3 of 5, and Octopus 1 of 5.
Do Weatherford and Granbury have their own electric systems?
Yes. Both cities appear on the PUCT’s list of city-owned electric utilities, and homes on those systems can’t choose a company. Some ZIP codes there still show Oncor plans, so check the utility name on your bill.
Does The Day Company make money from Fort Worth electric companies?
Not from rankings: no company can pay for a rating, score or spot on this page. We do earn a fee when you sign up through a labeled partner plan finder, if this page shows one. Think Energy is a paid partner through Think+, which is why it’s left out of our rankings.
