Short answer
The Day Company is a Washington company, founded in March 2023, that publishes solar and energy guides and scores solar companies on public records. In Illinois, installation partners pay us when we connect them with homeowners. Everywhere else, ads pay for the site. No company pays to be listed, scored or ranked, and we never review or rank a company we work with.

1 formulaThe same 100-point score for every solar company
Built on public data from state attorneys general, courts, state licensing boards, utility regulators, NABCEP and the Better Business Bureau. We aren’t affiliated with any utility, government agency or solar company.
01 · Why we exist
Most solar writing is a sales pitch. The rest reads like a regulatory filing.
Almost everything written about solar is written to close a sale, while the real rules sit in tariff sheets, program guidebooks, court filings and state records most homeowners never read.
Utility rates, rebates, net metering and tax credits keep changing. The Day Company started in Illinois in March 2023 to build the in-between: plain-English guides where every figure is dated and tied to an official source, so you never have to take our word for it.
The same gap exists everywhere, so we grew. In 2026 we added a Texas section, a national guide to solar companies that went bankrupt, and national reviews that score every solar company on the same public-records formula.
Our credibility is the product. Bending a number to help a sale, or a score to help an advertiser, would spend it.
02 · What we cover
One standard, from Illinois to the whole country
Every guide and review follows the same rules: public sources, real dates and plain English.
Here’s every way money reaches us, and the one way it never does.
Installers pay usIn Illinois
When a qualifying Illinois homeowner asks to be connected, we pass them to a licensed, insured installation partner, and that partner may pay us. Homeowners pay nothing, ever.
Ads pay usEverywhere else
Our Texas guides, national reviews and bankruptcy guide are paid for by display ads. Ads are labeled, and they never decide what we write.
No paid rankingsNever
No company can pay to be listed, scored, ranked or reviewed. We make no money from any review or ranking, and we never review or rank a company we work with.
How we keep money and scores apart. Our Illinois installation partners are never reviewed or ranked. Every solar company is scored on one public formula, the same for everyone. Ads never change a score, a ranking or a sentence.
04 · How a review gets made
Five steps, the same for every company
Star ratings and ads never count toward a score. Here’s exactly what does.
1. Pull the public records
Attorney general actions, court cases, state license files and the Better Business Bureau.
2. Read the company’s own papers
Warranties, contracts, price pages and its own words about who installs.
3. Score it on one formula
100 points for legal record, warranties, prices, who installs, time in business, certifications and BBB grade.
4. Check and date every fact
Each fact gets a source link and the date we checked it.
5. Publish, then keep checking
We recheck at every update and fix errors in public.
