Which SunPower? The SunPower ranked here is the former Complete Solaria. It bought the SunPower name in 2024, after the original company filed for bankruptcy. Have an older SunPower lease? See who services it now.
Texas began requiring home solar sellers to register on September 1, 2026. Freedom Solar Power now markets itself as Freedom Power. “Not yet listed” means we found no active registration under that name on October 7, 2026. It is not a sign of wrongdoing, and msot sellers were not listed yet.
Which big solar names failed since 2024?
Four big names went bankrupt or left home solar since 2024. A company that closes can’t come back to fix its own work. So check how a company is doing before you sign.
- ADT’s board voted to leave home solar. It wasn’t a bankruptcy, and ADT still sells security systems. Help for ADT Solar owners.
- The original SunPower filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Complete Solaria bought the name, and that’s the SunPower in our ranking. Help for original SunPower owners.
- Houston-based Sunnova filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. SunStrong Management now services most Sunnova systems. Help for Sunnova owners.
- Freedom Forever filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. In August 2026 the case became a Chapter 7 liquidation, which closes a company down. The court’s deadline to file a claim was October 16, 2026, but late claims can still be filed. Help for Freedom Forever owners.
How do I check a solar company before I sign?
Use this 2-minute check on any company, ranked or not. Keep your quote handy. Each box carries the points that part is worth in our formula.
Check every box that’s true for your company
Must-haves. Without both, don’t sign yet:
Points:
No 10-year workmanship warranty in writing? If the company closes, repairs on a system that costs about $26,000 could be on you.
Check licenses on TDLR’s license search. Check installers on NABCEP’s list. This is a quick check, not our full formula.
Who offers what: payments and products
Some companies sell only for cash or a loan. Others offer leases, batteries or roofing too.
From each company’s own website. A dash means we did not find it listed, not that it is never offered.
Companies we checked but did not rank
We scored these companies, but we only rank companies with an active Texas license that are still selling.
- TriSMART Solar scores 52 on our formula. Not ranked: it appeared to be closed when we checked.
- CAM Solar scores 63 on our formula. Not ranked: we found no active Texas license.
- Lone Star Solar Services scores 33 on our formula. Not ranked: we found no active Texas license.
How we rank: one formula, public records only
Every company gets the same 100 points to earn. Here is where they come from.
Bars start at zero. Each bar is the most points that part can earn.
A license is required to be ranked, but it earns no points. Star ratings and ads never count. No company has earned the 3 points for an outside warranty backup yet, so the best possible score today is 97. Read how we score companies for every rule.
Texas solar ranking questions, answered
Quick answers about how this ranking works.
What is the best solar company in Texas?
On our public-records formula, Atma Energy and Native Solar tie for first at 85 out of 100. Freedom Solar Power is third at 82.
How do you rank Texas solar companies?
We score every company on the same 100-point formula. It covers lawsuits, warranty terms, price clarity, who installs, years in business, certifications and BBB grade.
Can a solar company pay for a better rank here?
No. No company can pay to be listed, scored or ranked. Ads and any partner referral fees help fund the site, but neither has any say in our scores.
Why is a company not ranked?
We only rank companies with an active Texas electrical contractor license that are still selling. Some had no active license or seemed to have closed. Companies in bankruptcy aren’t ranked either.
How do I check a solar company’s Texas license?
Search the company on TDLR’s license search for an active electrical contractor license. Since September 1, 2026, solar sellers must also be registered with TDLR, unless they work directly for a licensed electrical contractor. Ask to see that too.
Which Texas solar companies post their prices?
Only 5 of the 20 we rank post prices you can see before a sales visit. They are Native Solar, Suntria, Solstice Solar, Palmetto Solar and Tesla.
Should I worry about a solar company going out of business?
It’s worth checking. Since 2024, the original SunPower, Sunnova and Freedom Forever filed for bankruptcy, and ADT left home solar. If an installer closes, its own workmanship warranty can end with it. Panel and inverter warranties stay with their makers.
How often do you update this ranking?
We recheck licenses, BBB grades and court records at every update and date each change in the changelog.
