Who provides electricity in Irving?
Two companies touch every Irving bill. Oncor runs the poles, wires and meters, and it fixes outages. The company you pick sells the power and sends the bill.
We tried every Irving ZIP on our map. Seven listed plans, and every one showed Oncor alone. The other four, 75014, 75016, 75017 and 75037, listed none.
The state’s lists of co-ops and city-owned utilities show no company or address in Irving. We couldn’t open the City of Irving’s own site, so we have no word from the city.
Is Oncor the only electric provider in Texas?
No. Oncor is one of four big wires companies in the shopping market. The others are CenterPoint, AEP Texas and TNMP. Oncor says it delivers to more than 4.1 million homes and businesses in over 400 cities, Irving among them. CenterPoint reports 2.86 million meters around Houston. Some towns use a co-op or a city-owned utility instead, such as Garland Power & Light and Denton Municipal Electric, and homes there can’t pick a seller.
Oncor: its tariff in force since Oct 4, 2026. TNMP and CenterPoint: PUCT tables as of Oct 1, 2026. AEP Texas Central: our AEP Texas guide. Delivery only, no energy. Bars start at zero.
Oncor’s tariff names Irving among its cities. Picking a new company never changes who fixes the line after a storm. Of the sellers in the table, three list Irving addresses with the PUCT: TXU Energy, TriEagle Energy and Value Based Brands (Express and Veteran). Ambit, which posted no plans, does too. An office down the road isn’t a reason to pick a plan. Not sure which wires company you have? Our utility finder shows where to look on a bill.

Power to Choose lists 44 company names for Oncor. This table has 43 rows because Think is shown separately and one company that lists two license names counts once. Rating: the PUCT’s September 2026 complaint scorecard (complaints per 1,000 customers, March 1 to August 31, 2026), as Power to Choose shows it. Our score: our 100-point review of public records, for companies we’ve reviewed. “Simple” means one fixed rate for 12 months, with no bill credit, usage fee or time-of-day price. Prices are fact-label averages at 500, 1,000 and 2,000 kWh, with Oncor’s delivery in and taxes out. Other usage levels are our estimates.

Think Energy sells on Oncor’s lines too. Think+ pays us for Think sign-ups, so Think stays out of this table, our picks and our scores. Power to Choose listed 3 Think plans for Oncor’s area on Oct 16, 2026. The state rates the company 2 of 5 for complaints.

What do Irving electricity rates cost right now?
On Oct 16, 2026, simple 12-month plans for Irving ran from 12.0¢ to 16.1¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh. That’s about $120 a month for the cheapest and $132 for the middle plan. Both prices already include Oncor’s delivery.
- Oncor delivery: $4.06 a month plus 6.8673¢ per kWh. Every company passes it along at the same rate.$72.73
- The energy itself. Your choice of company sets this slice.$47.27
Math for True Power’s True Value 12, priced at 12.0¢ in its Oct 16, 2026 fact label, before taxes. The delivery slice follows Oncor’s tariff in force since Oct 4.
Before: the PUCT’s Oncor rate table, “as of October 1, 2026.” After: Oncor’s tariff, in force since Oct 4, 2026. The difference is $8.37 a month, or $100.44 a year, our math. Bars start at zero.
Two dates to watch. Oncor calls its Oct 4 rates temporary until the PUCT makes a final ruling in Docket 59249, so they could change again. And one Oncor surcharge, 0.3633¢ per kWh ($3.63 at 1,000 kWh), is set to run through December 2026. The tariff doesn’t say what takes its place. Your plan’s Electricity Facts Label tells you how it handles a change in delivery charges.
Choosing the middle plan costs roughly $144 more a year. At 1,000 kWh, the median simple plan (13.2¢) runs $12 a month over the cheapest (12.0¢). Price two or three plans at your own usage first.

What do Irving apartments really pay?
No public source tracks an Irving-only average bill. Rented apartments in the South use about 690 kWh a month, the EIA’s 2020 home energy survey says. At that size, the cheapest simple plan works out to roughly $85, our estimate between the 500 and 1,000 kWh fact-label prices. Compare that with the average Texas electric bill.
Already on a plan? On Oct 16, 2026, 140 of the 174 plans for Oncor’s area were for new customers only. If your contract is about to end, see what to do when it does.
Renting in Irving? What to check before you sign
About 6 in 10 Irving households rent. Your meter and your lease decide whether you can shop at all, so settle those two first.
Census Bureau, American Community Survey 2020–2024 five-year estimates, ZIP Code Tabulation Areas. All of Irving: 61.9%. These are estimates with margins of error, and ZIP areas don’t match city lines exactly. Bars start at zero.
How does an Irving apartment get its power?
- Your own meter, your own pick. The unit has its own ESI ID, and the bill comes from a company you chose. You can shop.
- Your landlord’s meter on your unit. The owner bills you under PUCT’s submetering rules. You can’t pick a company.
- One big meter, bill split. The owner divides one bill among units under PUCT’s shared-meter rules. You can’t shop.
- Power is in your rent. Nothing to set up. Ask the office what the lease says about usage.
Only the first kind lets you shop. Our Texas apartment electricity guide covers the landlord rules in detail, and the PUCT’s fact sheets on submetering and shared meters explain your rights.
Your Irving renter checklist
- 1Ask who bills for power
The leasing office knows if your unit has its own meter. That one answer decides if you can shop.
- 2Find the ESI ID
Type the new address into Oncor’s ESI ID lookup. You’ll hand this number to your new company when you enroll.
- 3Match the plan to your lease
Pick a term at least as long as your lease. Check the 500 and 1,000 kWh prices on the label, because a big gap means a credit.
- 4Start before the key
Sign up a few days early. Our guides on same-day electricity and the 4-step setup list cut-off times.
- 5Leaving? Send a forwarding address
Give your company your move-out date and new address, and keep proof. A PUCT rule then bars the cancel fee for that move.

Why do four Irving ZIPs list no plans?
Power to Choose showed plans for seven Irving ZIPs on Oct 16, 2026. For 75014, 75016, 75017 and 75037 it showed none. Try yours.
Covers every Dallas–Fort Worth ZIP on our map, including all 11 Irving ZIPs. One ZIP can mix utilities, so your bill has the final say. We don’t save your ZIP.
- What we know. Census files have no ZIP area for those four ZIPs. Census says some valid ZIPs are left out, and that a ZIP area can be P.O. box only or built for one organization.
- What we couldn’t confirm. That points to P.O. box or single-owner ZIPs, but we couldn’t check each one with the Postal Service. Use the ZIP on your street address.
- What it isn’t. We found no co-op or city utility in Irving, so a blank ZIP result here doesn’t mean you lose the right to shop.
How hot does Irving get, and what does it do to your bill?
The weather station at DFW Airport sits about 2 miles from ZIP 75063. It logs 106 days a year at 90°F or hotter, and about 20 of them reach 100°F.
NOAA 1991–2020 climate normals, Dallas/Fort Worth Airport station (USW00003927). The 2-mile distance to ZIP 75063 is our estimate from Census center points. The scale starts at 60°F to show the gap between day and night.
Cooling degree-days add up how far each day’s average climbs above 65°F. A bigger number means the AC runs more. Because bills climb with kWh, summer is when a plan’s fine print matters most. In the table above, the 2,000 kWh button shows who is cheapest in a heavy month.
Spark Energy’s Choose 12 (13.6¢ at 500 kWh, 13.2¢ at 1,000) and Sure Saver 12 (18.3¢ and 7.9¢), fact-label prices on Power to Choose, Oct 16, 2026, before taxes. Bars start at zero.
A light month can cost you $23.50 extra. At 500 kWh, Spark’s credit plan costs $91.50 and its normal plan costs $68.00. A price that falls this far at 1,000 kWh usually rests on a usage credit, and the fact label gives the exact rule. Rented apartments in the South average about 690 kWh, closer to 500 than to 1,000.

Which electric company is best in Irving?
It depends on your usage and what matters to you. Each pick below uses the state’s complaint ratings, fact-label prices from Oct 16, 2026 and our scores. No company paid to be in our table, picks or scores.
Rated 5 of 5. Choose 12 priced at 13.2¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh, the best simple price among the 5-of-5 companies here. New customers only.
Rated 4 of 5, and the plan is 100% renewable. Gexa Eco Choice 12 was 12.4¢ at 1,000 kWh, for new customers only. Our score: 74.
Rated 4 of 5. Its Ranchero Smart & Fixed -12 plan was 12.9¢ at 1,000 kWh and is open to existing customers, with a $179 cancel fee.
Rated 5 of 5, and it earned 96 out of 100 from us. Champ Saver-12 was 14.3¢ at 1,000 kWh, with a $150 cancel fee.
Cheapest or fewest complaints? The lowest simple price, 12.0¢, comes from True Power, which the state rates 1 of 5, and the plan has a $300 cancel fee. Spark’s 5-of-5 plan costs about $12 more per month at 1,000 kWh. Weigh the two before you decide.
An Irving office isn’t a score. TXU Energy, TriEagle Energy and Value Based Brands list Irving addresses with the PUCT. TXU is rated 5 of 5 and we score it 80, but on Oct 16, 2026 its only plan for Oncor’s area, Smart 1000 Select 12, priced at 10.9¢ at 1,000 kWh and 23.0¢ at 500. TriEagle earns 74.

Before you sign up
Two checks before you click. New customers only: 140 of the 174 plans on Oct 16, 2026. And Oncor’s delivery charge rose on Oct 4, so a fact label from before that day can show a price about 0.8¢ per kWh too low.

Oncor handles outages and fallen lines. Your electric company handles bills, plans and moves. A new plan never changes which crew restores your lights.

Own a house in Irving and want backup power? Through our partner Think+, Energywell installs a home battery with no upfront cost for the battery or a standard install. In return, you buy your power from Energywell at a fixed rate for 1 or 5 years, plus $19 a month and delivery. The battery comes under a 15-year agreement, and backup power isn’t guaranteed. It is for owners of single-family homes without solar, and only in parts of the Houston and Dallas–Fort Worth areas. Six Irving ZIPs (75038, 75039 and 75060 to 75063) were on the install list on Oct 14, 2026. About 6 in 10 Irving households rent, and renters can’t join. Leaving the agreement early carries fees, including $500 to take the battery back; our battery guide lists the rest. Think+ is waiving the refundable $99 reservation fee for sign-ups through Oct 31, 2026.

Five checks before you sign an Irving plan
Each check uses a document the company must give you or a public record.
- 1Price it at 500 and 2,000 kWh
A plan that looks cheap at 1,000 kWh can cost far more in a low-use month. Many apartments use about 500 to 700 kWh.
- 2Hunt for a bill credit
A price that drops hard at exactly 1,000 kWh usually depends on a credit. Use less, and the credit can vanish.
- 3Read the label’s date
Oncor’s delivery charge changed on Oct 4, 2026. Look for a fact label dated Oct 4 or after.
- 4Know the exit fee
A few plans set one flat fee, such as $150 or $300. Others bill $20 for every month left. Moving away with a forwarding address is exempt.
- 5Know your 3 days
If you switch from another company, you can back out free within 3 federal business days. Turning on power at a new address doesn’t get that window.
Our fact label guide walks through any plan’s fine print. Not sure whether to go fixed or variable? Start with fixed vs. variable rates.
Irving electricity questions, answered
Short answers from state records, Census and NOAA data, and the companies’ own documents.
Who is the electricity provider in Irving, TX?
Oncor Electric Delivery owns the lines and meters in Irving and fixes outages. It doesn’t sell power. You buy it from a company you choose. On Oct 16, 2026, 44 companies listed plans for Irving homes on Power to Choose, the state’s shopping site.
Is Oncor the only electric provider in Texas?
No. Oncor is one of several wires companies. CenterPoint, AEP Texas and TNMP also let homes pick a seller, and some towns use a co-op or a city-owned utility. Oncor says it serves more than 4.1 million homes and businesses, in Irving and over 400 other incorporated cities.
What is the cheapest electricity plan in Irving right now?
On Oct 16, 2026, the lowest simple 12-month plan for Oncor’s area was True Power’s True Value 12, at 12.0¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh. That is about $120 a month with delivery. It has a $300 cancel fee, is for new customers only, and the PUCT’s September 2026 scorecard (March 1 to August 31, 2026) puts True Power in its highest complaint group, 1 of 5. Complaints filed are not findings.
How many electric companies serve Irving?
Power to Choose listed 44 companies and 174 plans for Irving’s ZIP codes on Oct 16, 2026. Nine hold the state’s best complaint rating, 5 of 5. Other licensed sellers post no plans there; they may sell only through their own sites, or not to homes at all. No co-op or city utility turned up for Irving.
What are electricity rates in Irving per kWh?
On Oct 16, 2026, simple 12-month plans for Irving ran from 12.0¢ to 16.1¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh. The middle plan cost 13.2¢, about $132 a month. These prices include Oncor’s delivery but not taxes. Prices change often, so read a plan’s fact label before you sign.
Why did my Irving electric bill go up in October 2026?
Oncor raised its delivery charge on Oct 4, 2026. At 1,000 kWh it went from $64.36 in the PUCT’s Oct 1 table to $72.73 in Oncor’s tariff, which is $8.37 more a month. Oncor calls the new rates temporary until the PUCT rules in Docket 59249. Your fact label says how your plan treats delivery changes.
Can I pick my own electric company in an Irving apartment?
Yes, if your unit has its own meter. Then you choose the company, and it sends the bill. If the building has one main meter, your landlord buys the power and bills you under state rules, and you can’t shop. Ask the leasing office which setup you have.
Do I pay a cancel fee if I move out of Irving?
Not for the move itself. A PUCT rule bars an early termination fee when you move and give your company a forwarding address. It may ask for proof, like a new lease. The rule covers moves only, so switching companies early while you stay put can still cost a fee.
Why does Power to Choose show no plans for ZIP 75014, 75016, 75017 or 75037?
On Oct 16, 2026, those four Irving ZIPs returned no plans. Census files have no ZIP area for them, which fits P.O. box or single-owner ZIPs, but we couldn’t confirm that with the Postal Service. Enter the ZIP on your street address. The other seven Irving ZIPs list Oncor plans.
Who do I call for a power outage in Irving?
Call Oncor at 888-313-4747, open 24 hours a day, or text OUT to 66267. Oncor’s outage map shows what it knows about your area. Your electric company can’t restore power, so call it only about bills and plans. If a line is down, stay away and call 911 first.
Does Irving have a city-owned power company or a co-op?
We found none. The PUCT’s lists of co-ops and city-owned utilities show no company or address in Irving, and every Irving ZIP with plans lists Oncor. We couldn’t read the City of Irving’s own website, so check your bill if your home sits at the city’s edge.
Can I get a home battery in Irving with no upfront cost?
Maybe. Through our partner Think+, Energywell offers a no-upfront-cost battery to owners of single-family homes without solar. Six Irving ZIPs are on its install list. You buy your power from Energywell, the agreement runs 15 years, and leaving early costs a fee. Our battery guide lays out the catch.
