How does Constellation score?
Constellation earns 77 out of 100, which we rate "good." It gets full marks for complaints, its BBB grade and time in business. It loses points for a 2024 state penalty, four extra fees and having no simple 12-month plan.
- October 5, 2026: 77 at launch.
No change is scheduled: its only penalty in our window, from February 2024, stays in it until 2034. We re-check prices every month and re-score when the state posts new complaint data or a penalty order, or the BBB grade changes.

| Category | Points | Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Complaints to the state | 25 / 25 | 5 of 5, the best group, on the PUCT complaint scorecard, March 1 to August 31, 2026 |
| BBB rating | 5 / 5 | A+, accredited since 2011, checked October 5, 2026 |
| Fines and penalties | 12 / 20 | One PUCT penalty in 10 years: $160,000 in 2024 (Docket 55725, −8). The $66,825 bill-help contribution in the same case isn't a penalty. |
| Contract fairness | 9 / 20 | $150 cancel fee on its 12-month plan (5 of 5); no arbitration clause or class-action waiver (4 of 4); four extra fees: disconnection, reconnection, $6.95 phone payments and collection-agency fees (0 of 4); no simple 12-month plan (0 of 4); no free-cancel window beyond the 3-day legal minimum (0 of 3) |
| Price | 16 / 20 | No simple 12-month plan is listed, so we score its only 12-month fixed plan, 12 Month A/C Protect Plus for 2 Units: 15.8¢ in Dallas and 15.3¢ in Houston at 1,000 kWh. The 15.55¢ average is 98% of EIA's 15.88¢ Texas average for July 2026. |
| Time in business | 10 / 10 | Licensed February 26, 2001 (6); its terms describe a customer-funded energy assistance program (2); parent Constellation Energy publishes audited financials (2) |
Our method scores a company's simplest 12-month fixed plan. When there's no 12-month plan without bill credits, we score the simplest 12-month plan it has, say so, and it misses the 4 contract points for a simple plan. Full method: how we score.
Constellation quick facts
What is Constellation's phone number?
Dial 1-888-900-7052. Per its terms of service, the line is staffed 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays, Central time. Lights out? That’s your utility’s job, because Constellation only sells the power and doesn’t own any lines.
Power out? Call the company that owns your lines
Paying through Constellation's call center costs $6.95 each time, so paying online or by mail saves money. Its separate A/C service plan has its own line: 1-844-823-4663.
How many complaints does Constellation get?
From April through September 2026, the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) logged 26 complaints about Constellation. For its size, Constellation gets the state's best rating: 5 of 5.
Category names are the PUCT’s own: billing, discontinuance, provision of service, slamming (moving you to a new provider without your OK), cramming (charges you didn’t approve) and all other. Data: PUCT Customer Complaint Statistics, as of October 5, 2026.
Every six months, the state measures complaints per 1,000 customers for each provider and splits the field into five equal groups. Constellation made the top group, meaning it drew the fewest complaints for its size.
39 complaints in three years, and the BBB shows no alerts. Its 16 customer reviews average 1.25 out of 5, though the BBB leaves reviews out of the grade.
What does Constellation charge in 2026?
We found 3 Constellation home plans in Dallas and 5 in Houston, priced from 11.7¢ to 15.8¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh with delivery included. Its 11-month Simple Switch plan works out to about $139 a month in Houston, before taxes.
These are fact-label averages from Power to Choose on October 5, 2026, for ZIP 75201 (Dallas) and 77002 (Houston). They include delivery but not taxes. The plan we score is in green.

When do Constellation's bill-credit plans cost more?
The 14-month bill-credit plan looks cheap at 1,000 kWh: 11.8¢ in Houston. But the $35 credit only comes in months you use 1,000 kWh or more. At 500 kWh the same plan costs 15.8¢, more than the 11-month Simple Switch plan.
From Constellation’s ZIP 77002 fact labels on Power to Choose, October 5, 2026.
Rule of thumb: the credit plan only wins if you top 1,000 kWh in every single month, mild spring and fall included. Use 999 kWh and the full $35 disappears. If your use rises and falls, stick with the simple plan.
What fees does Constellation charge, and how do I cancel?
Constellation charges $150 to cancel its 12-, 14- and 36-month plans early and $50 on Simple Switch plans. Its terms waive the fee if you move and show proof with a forwarding address.
- No arbitration clause or class-action waiver
- Moving? Proof of the move waives the cancel fee
- Age 65 or older and current on bills? No deposit. A letter of credit also works
- The default plan after your contract can be canceled anytime with no fee
- Just the 3 business days the law allows to cancel free once you enroll
- $6.95 every time you pay through the call center
- Its final renewal notice may arrive only 15 days before the contract ends
- After that, the variable price is set at Constellation's sole discretion
