The scale: what IGS gives and what it costs
Picture a scale. On one side is what IGS gives you: a long state record, a top BBB grade and no fines. On the other is what it costs: a price above your utility's default and a 30-day notice rule to leave.
Licensed since 2011. A+ at the BBB. No Pennsylvania fines found. 6.36 complaints per 10,000 homes in 2024. No arbitration clause in its contract.
Plans priced 11% to 27% above the price to compare. A $99 to $199 fee to leave early. A monthly price after the term that is higher still.
The price side is the only light one. If IGS sold at exactly the price to compare, it would earn 15 points for price instead of 7. That would lift it to 81 points, a Very good score.
Five parts earn 66 of 80 points. Price earns 7 of 20. The proof for each part is in the legit section below.
Check IGS's prices and your cancel dates
This tool does two jobs. It lists the IGS plans on PA Power Switch today, utility by utility. It also turns your contract end date into the dates that matter.
Pick your utility to see IGS's plans there. Type your contract end date to get your notice dates. Use one or both.
We could not load all of today's plan lists. See IGS's plans at PAPowerSwitch.com. The date part of this tool still works.

IGS plans listed today
Loading IGS's plans...
Plan lists come from PA Power Switch, the state's own offer list.
These are estimates, not a bill. The dates follow Pennsylvania's rules for fixed-price contracts, and your IGS contract and letters win if they differ. Plan prices come from the state's PA Power Switch list. Counts leave out our partner's plans.
Does IGS Energy save you money?
Usually not. The price to compare is what your utility charges per kWh for supply if you do not shop. It is on your bill. On Oct 20, 2026, none of the IGS plans on the state's list cost less than it, in any of the seven areas where IGS sells. IGS says so itself in its contract: "Your supply price may or may not provide savings."
| Utility | IGS 12-month price | Above the price to compare | Plans that cost less |
|---|---|---|---|
| PPL | 15.29¢ | +16.9% | 72 of 84 |
| PECO | 13.49¢ | +14.7% | 78 of 90 |
| Duquesne Light | 17.99¢ | +27.2% | 76 of 79 |
| Met-Ed | 15.49¢ | +11.0% | 73 of 81 |
| Penelec | 14.99¢ | +14.1% | 71 of 81 |
| Penn Power | 16.99¢ | +26.1% | 64 of 69 |
| West Penn | 15.09¢ | +25.0% | 70 of 75 |
"Plans that cost less" counts fixed plans of 12 months or longer on the same utility's main home rate, by price per kWh. It leaves out our partner's plans. IGS costs more than at least 85% of them in every area. The tool above repeats this count live each day.
What the gap costs
Take a home that uses 700 kWh a month, or 8,400 kWh a year. This is one year of supply charges. Delivery charges are the same whoever supplies you, so they are left out.
| Plan | PPL area | PECO area |
|---|---|---|
| Price to compare (Oct 20) | $1,098.64 | $987.76 |
| IGS 12-month plan (IGS's own price, Oct 19) | $1,259.16 | $1,149.96 |
| Extra cost per year | $160.52 | $162.20 |
| IGS green 12-month plan (IGS's own price, Oct 19) | $1,284.36 | $1,175.16 |
That extra money buys one thing: a price that stays put. A fixed price pays off only if the price to compare ends up above it. At the last change, on June 1, 2026, the price to compare rose 1.5% to 11.9% in the seven big areas. IGS's gap is 11% to 27%. In every area, that gap is larger than the June 1 rise.
Check the price on IGS's own page
The state list and IGS's site do not always match. IGS sells a standard plan and a green plan that costs about 0.3¢ more. Three state cards match the green price, two match the standard price, and two are older and lower than both.
| Utility | State card, Oct 20 (date on card) | IGS standard, Oct 19 | IGS green, Oct 19 |
|---|---|---|---|
| PPL | 15.29¢ (Oct 6) | 14.99¢ | 15.29¢ |
| PECO | 13.49¢ (May 20) | 13.69¢ | 13.99¢ |
| Duquesne Light | 17.99¢ (Jul 14) | 17.99¢ | 18.29¢ |
| Met-Ed | 15.49¢ (Jun 23) | 15.69¢ | 15.99¢ |
| Penelec | 14.99¢ (Feb 25) | 14.99¢ | 15.29¢ |
| Penn Power | 16.99¢ (Oct 6) | 16.69¢ | 16.99¢ |
| West Penn | 15.09¢ (Oct 13) | 14.79¢ | 15.09¢ |
Check the price and the date on the card before you sign. Then check IGS's sign-up page for the same plan.
Is IGS Energy legit in Pennsylvania?
Yes. IGS is a licensed Pennsylvania electric supplier with a clean state record. The state approved its first license on May 19, 2011. Legit does not mean cheap, as the price section shows.
Here are the six parts of the 73. Each point comes from a public record or from IGS's own contract.
| Category | Points | Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Complaints to the state | 20 / 25 | 34 complaints in 2024 (PUC UCARE report, page 100) divided by 53,472 Pennsylvania homes served (EIA-861, 2024) is 6.36 per 10,000 homes. The 5-to-10 band earns 20 of 25 points. |
| BBB rating | 5 / 5 | A+ and BBB accredited, read on October 16, 2026. That earns 5 of 5 points. |
| Fines and penalties | 20 / 20 | None found. We searched the PUC's enforcement complaints and fine payments from 2016 to 2026 under IGS's legal names. That earns 20 of 20 points. |
| Contract fairness | 17 / 20 | The cancel fee is $99 on the 12-month plan (5 of 5). The contract has no arbitration clause (4 of 4), no extra fees (4 of 4) and a plain fixed plan (4 of 4). It gives no free-cancel window beyond the 3 business days the law gives (0 of 3). |
| Price | 7 / 20 | The 12-month plan on PA Power Switch was 15.29¢ in PPL's area and 13.49¢ in PECO's on October 16, 2026. The frozen reference prices to compare are 13.079¢ and 11.759¢. That is 116.9% and 114.7%, an average of 115.8%, which earns 7 of 20 points. IGS's own site showed 14.99¢ and 13.69¢, which earns the same 7. |
| Time in business | 4 / 10 | Licensed since May 19, 2011 (15.4 years), which earns 4 of 6 points. IGS has no bill-help program of its own (0 of 2) and no public audited financials (0 of 2). |
The license
The PUC's order of May 19, 2011 approved "Interstate Gas Supply, Inc. d/b/a IGS Energy" to sell electricity in PECO's area (docket A-2011-2228643). A license effective December 5, 2012 widened that to the seven big utility areas. The PUC reissued it on January 8, 2025 to Interstate Gas Supply, LLC. It lists PPL, PECO, Duquesne Light, Met-Ed, Penelec, Penn Power and West Penn. It does not list UGI Electric.
What the complaint report shows
The PUC counted 34 complaints that named IGS in 2024 and 58 in 2023. It does not adjust its counts for company size, so we do that step. IGS served 53,472 Pennsylvania homes in 2024, so the 2024 count is 6.36 per 10,000 homes. Of the 34, 28 named IGS as the main company.
The PUC warns that a high count "isn't necessarily indicative of a non-compliance issue," because suppliers vary in size. Its table also counts payment arrangement requests with consumer complaints. So treat 6.36 as a guide, not a verdict.
Fines, lawsuits and other states
We found no Pennsylvania fine, settlement or order against IGS. We also found no court ruling against its electricity plans. The one Pennsylvania court case we found names IGS as a petitioner. IGS, NRG and Shipley challenged PUC orders about utility on-bill billing. The Commonwealth Court upheld the PUC's orders on April 28, 2023. It is a dispute over utility billing, not over IGS's plans or customers.
Actions in other states are "reported, not scored." We found none against IGS on the Massachusetts DPU's list or in web searches. We did not search every state docket. A lawsuit is only a claim until a court decides it.
Why star ratings vary
Star ratings on open review sites can mix gas and electric customers, other firms' sales calls and anger at renewal prices. We do not use them. We use state records, the BBB grade and IGS's own contract.
What we could not check
IGS is private, so no audited financial statements are public. We read the PPL and PECO contracts and a 24-month PPL copy. Contracts for the other five areas may differ in small ways.
What the IGS contract says
This review covers IGS's electricity plans for homes. IGS also sells natural gas, and we do not score that. We read its Pennsylvania contract (version V0826). All three copies share one template. Here are the terms that matter, in plain words.
| Term | What the contract says | In plain words |
|---|---|---|
| Price | "Fixed price during Initial Contract Term." Plans run 12, 24 or 36 months. | The price per kWh stays the same for the term. |
| Price change | If a regulator such as FERC changes wholesale or capacity costs, IGS "shall have the right to increase Your price." | A fixed price has one exception. |
| Early cancel fee | $99 for the initial term of the 12-month plan. IGS lists $149 for 24 months and $199 for 36. | You pay it only if you leave before the no-fee stretch. |
| Notice to cancel | Either side can cancel "by providing notice to the other Party of not less than 30 days, or as otherwise provided in a renewal notice." | Give IGS 30 days' notice. Your renewal notice may say more. |
| Late notice | A late notice "may result in additional month(s) of service beyond the contract period at the Initial Term Price." | IGS may bill extra months at your fixed price. |
| Right to cancel | "At any time before midnight of the 3rd business day" after you get the disclosure. | You can cancel free in 3 business days. |
| After the term | "Month to Month" at a "Monthly Variable price." | The price can change each month. |
| Moving | If your utility has seamless move, the agreement "will automatically continue at Your new location." | Moving inside the same utility keeps the plan. |
| Transfer | The agreement "is assignable by IGS Energy without Your consent." | IGS can pass your contract to another company. |
| Disputes | Contact IGS first, then the PUC. | There is no arbitration clause. |
| Other fees | None besides the cancel fee. Late fees come from your utility. | No monthly fee shows on any IGS plan we read. |
The 30-day notice rule can cost you. If you cancel late, IGS may keep serving you for extra months at your fixed price. Cancel dates also follow your utility's rules. Set a reminder for 30 days before your end date, and use the tool above to get your dates.
Your plan ends after a set number of billing cycles, not on a calendar date. The first cycle can be partial. So the true end date can differ by a few days from the date you expect. Use the date on your IGS letter or in your online account.
What happens when your IGS term ends
A fixed plan ends on a set date. If you do nothing, IGS moves you to a monthly variable price. State rules make IGS warn you twice first.
- 60 to 45 days before the endFirst notice. IGS tells you the plan is ending. It can come by mail or, if you chose it, by email.
- At least 30 days before the endSecond notice, called the options notice. It must go by first-class mail. It lists three choices: stay, switch suppliers or go back to your utility.
- From the second notice to the end dateNo cancel fee. PA Power Switch puts it as the last 30 days of your contract.
- The end dateYour fixed price ends. IGS's contract then moves you to a monthly variable price.
- After the end dateYou can leave at any time with no fee. IGS can change the price each month.
If you do nothing, the PUC says the supplier can move you to a month-to-month variable rate or to a fixed rate. Cancel fees do not apply then, and you can leave without penalty by telling the supplier. The supplier must tell you the price for the first billing cycle.
What IGS's monthly price looks like
IGS posts its monthly variable prices on its site. For October 2026 it posted 17.99¢ in six areas and 16.99¢ in PECO's. IGS says its posted prices are "not indicative of present or future pricing." Its contract says the price can change each month, based on energy and other costs "plus IGS Energy costs, expenses and margins."
| Utility | IGS monthly variable price | Above the price to compare |
|---|---|---|
| PPL | 17.99¢ | +37.5% |
| PECO | 16.99¢ | +44.5% |
| Duquesne Light | 17.99¢ | +27.2% |
| Met-Ed | 17.99¢ | +29.0% |
| Penelec | 17.99¢ | +36.9% |
| Penn Power | 17.99¢ | +33.5% |
| West Penn | 17.99¢ | +49.0% |
The gap grows once the fixed term ends.
At 1,000 kWh a month, 17.99¢ in PPL's area costs about $49 a month more than the price to compare, or about $589 a year. In PECO's area, 16.99¢ costs about $52 more a month, or about $628 a year.
IGS's posted prices move in steps. From July 2025 through May 2026 it posted 16.99¢ for PPL's area. Since June 2026 it posts 17.99¢. In PECO's area the price went from 14.99¢ to 16.99¢ in June 2026. Both rises came at the June 1 change in prices to compare. Another change comes December 1, so run the tool again after the new numbers post.
How to cancel IGS Energy
You do not need a reason to leave. You do need the right date. Follow these steps in order.
- 1Find your end date and your fee.
Look on your IGS bill, your contract or your online account. Then run the tool above. It turns your end date into your no-fee dates.
- 2Pick where you go next.
Choose a new supplier or go back to your utility's price to compare. PA Power Switch says switching back to your utility costs nothing. Read any new supplier's fee and renewal terms first.
- 3Time the switch.
Leave in the no-fee stretch and you owe no cancel fee. Leave earlier and IGS may bill $99, $149 or $199, depending on your plan. PA Power Switch says you can likely change suppliers in three business days once your utility is told of the switch.
- 4Tell IGS.
Call 800.280.4474, weekdays 8am to 8pm or Saturdays 9am to 3pm Eastern. Or write to IGS at P.O. Box 9060, Dublin, OH 43017. Ask for your last day of service and any fee, in writing. Your contract asks for 30 days' notice.
- 5Check your last bill.
Look for the end date and for any fee. If a fee looks wrong, use the complaint steps below.
Signed up in the last 3 business days? You can cancel free. IGS's contract says you may cancel "at any time before midnight of the 3rd business day after receiving this disclosure."
Never signed up with IGS? That may be a switch you did not approve. Dispute it with your utility and IGS within your first two billing periods. If the switch was not authorized, you do not owe the supplier's bills for that time, and you can switch back for no fee. The rule is PA Code section 57.177.
Who owns IGS Energy?
IGS calls itself "private and family-owned" and says it has served customers "since 1989." It has no public audited financials, so we could not check its books.
Private and family-owned, in IGS's words. Its contracts and BBB profile list Dublin, Ohio. It sells electricity and natural gas. This review covers its Pennsylvania electricity plans only.
IGS finished buying Just Energy on July 1, 2025. The group's brands are Just Energy, Hudson Energy, Amigo Energy and Tara Energy. IGS says Just Energy "will continue to operate independently under its existing brands."
We review three of those brands in Texas: Just Energy (Texas review), Amigo Energy (Texas review) and Tara Energy (Texas review). Those scores use Texas records. They do not change IGS's Pennsylvania score.
IGS Energy against other Pennsylvania suppliers
On Oct 16, 2026, IGS ranked tenth of 21 Pennsylvania suppliers. Its clean record puts it near the middle. Price keeps it from the top.
| Supplier | Score | Complaints per 10,000 homes | Price against price to compare |
|---|---|---|---|
| IGS Energy | 73 | 6.36 | 115.8% |
| CleanChoice Energy | 78 | 12.02 | 98.5% |
| Inspire Clean Energy | 72 | 5.45 | 104.5% |
| Verde Energy | 62 | 9.69 | 104.6% |
| AEP Energy | 90 | 2.34 | 97.8% |
Read the last column as each supplier's 12-month plan against the price to compare. 100% means the same price. Under 100% means cheaper. See all 21 suppliers in our Pennsylvania supplier ranking, and read how we score.
How to complain about IGS Energy
Most problems end faster if you work through these steps in order.
- 1Call or write IGS.
The PUC asks you to try the company first. Use 800.280.4474 or CustomerSupport@igs.com. Write down the date, the time and the name of the person you spoke to.
- 2If it is about a bill or a switch you did not approve, tell your utility too.
A claim that your supplier changed without your consent counts as a dispute your utility must look into.
- 3File an informal complaint with the PUC.
Use the form at puc.pa.gov/complaints or call 800.692.7380. The PUC says an informal complaint "does not involve a legal proceeding."
- 4Ask the Office of Consumer Advocate for help.
It speaks for consumers in utility matters. IGS's contract lists its number as 800.684.6560.
Use 800.692.7380 for the PUC. That is the number on the PUC's own site. IGS's contract prints that number once and a different one, ending in 7390, once.
Questions, answered
Is IGS Energy legit in Pennsylvania?
Yes. The Pennsylvania PUC licensed IGS to sell electricity in 2011 and reissued the license on January 8, 2025. IGS has an A+ from the BBB and no Pennsylvania fines on record. Legit does not mean cheap, though: its plans cost more than the price to compare.
Is IGS Energy a good company?
It scores 73 out of 100 (Good) on public records. It earns full marks for fines and the BBB grade, and 20 of 25 for complaints. Price is the weak part, at 7 of 20 points. It ranked tenth of 21 Pennsylvania suppliers on Oct 16, 2026.
Does IGS Energy save you money?
Usually not. On Oct 20, 2026, no IGS plan on the state's list cost less than the price to compare. Its 12-month plans ran 11% to 27% higher. IGS's own contract says your price "may or may not provide savings." A fixed price pays off only if the price to compare rises above it.
What is the IGS Energy cancellation fee?
On IGS's 12-month plan the fee is $99. IGS lists $149 for 24 months and $199 for 36 months. You pay it only if you leave early. Pennsylvania rules say it stops applying once you get your options notice, which is due 30 days before your end date. Use our tool to find your dates.
How do I cancel IGS Energy?
Choose your next plan or go back to your utility, then confirm the date with IGS. Call 800.280.4474 or write to P.O. Box 9060, Dublin, OH 43017. IGS's contract asks for 30 days' notice. You can cancel free within 3 business days of signing.
What happens when my IGS contract ends?
IGS's contract moves you to a monthly variable price unless you pick a new plan. No cancel fee applies then, and you can leave at any time. In October 2026 IGS posted 17.99¢ in most areas and 16.99¢ in PECO's, well above each utility's price to compare.
When will IGS send my renewal notices?
The first notice should come 45 to 60 days before your contract ends. The second, called the options notice, goes by first-class mail at least 30 days before the end. It lists your choices: stay, switch suppliers or return to your utility. Our tool turns your end date into these dates.
Is an IGS fixed price really fixed?
Mostly. The price stays the same for the term. But the contract lets IGS raise a fixed price if a regulator, such as FERC, changes wholesale or capacity costs. It also asks for 30 days' notice to cancel. Read the price clause in your contract before you sign.
Who owns IGS Energy?
IGS says it is private and family-owned, and it has served customers since 1989. Its contracts list Dublin, Ohio. IGS finished buying Just Energy on July 1, 2025. That group sells as Just Energy, Hudson Energy, Amigo Energy and Tara Energy. We review three of them in Texas.
Why is IGS Energy on my bill if I never signed up?
Call IGS and your utility and say you did not agree. If you dispute within your first two billing periods and the switch was not authorized, you do not owe the supplier's bills for that time. You can switch back for no fee. File a PUC complaint if it is not fixed.
Is there an IGS Energy lawsuit?
We found no Pennsylvania court ruling or PUC penalty against IGS's electricity plans. The one Pennsylvania case we found names IGS as a petitioner: IGS, NRG and Shipley challenged PUC orders on utility billing, and the court upheld the PUC in 2023. A lawsuit is only a claim until a court decides it.
What is the IGS Energy customer service phone number?
IGS lists 800.280.4474 for customer service, weekdays 8am to 8pm and Saturdays 9am to 3pm Eastern. For sales it lists 877.995.4447. You can also email CustomerSupport@igs.com. If you cannot settle a problem with IGS, call the PUC at 800.692.7380 or file a complaint at puc.pa.gov.
