Short answer

Lumio is gone, but your loan and your panels aren’t. The Utah solar company filed for Chapter 11 on September 3, 2024, in Delaware (case 24-11916). Zeo Energy bought its assets that November and said it would finish installs under Lumio’s deals. A liquidating trust now settles the rest. Keep paying your loan, and use the makers’ warranties for repairs.

Your Lumio system in 60 seconds

Lumio is gone for good. Your loan and your part warranties are not.

  1. Unfinished install? Ask Zeo Energy, in writing, if yours is on its list.
  2. Keep paying your lender. Lumio’s bankruptcy didn’t cancel the loan.
  3. Broken part? Call the maker on its label, then a licensed installer.

04 · Loan and warranty

Do I still pay my Lumio loan? Is my warranty still good?

Yes, the loan still stands. And the makers’ warranties often still apply. Lumio’s own install warranty is the part at risk.

A lender holds your loan, not Lumio. Lumio’s bankruptcy didn’t erase it, and the lender’s name is on your loan papers. Send that lender any questions in writing, and keep paying while you wait.

Paid Lumio a deposit and got nothing? Under federal law, up to $3,800 of a home buyer’s deposit claim ranks ahead of most other claims. Ranking higher still isn’t a promise of money.
Expect little. With about 950 claims filed and lawsuits still open, any payout to customers is uncertain, and it may be small.
06 · Red flags

  1. Lumio formed from Atlantic Key Energy, DECA, LIFT Energy and Smart Energy Today.
  2. High interest rates and falling solar demand squeezed installers like Lumio.
  3. It filed for Chapter 11 to sell itself to its main lender.

07 · Repairs and scams

How do I get my Lumio system fixed safely?

Unfinished install? Ask Zeo Energy first. Broken part? Call its maker, and let a licensed installer do the labor and file the claim. Then skip these Lumio scams.

  1. “We bought Lumio’s accounts”Zeo bought Lumio’s assets, but check any caller yourself. Look the company up, then call it back.
  2. A fee to “transfer” your warrantyMaker warranties stay with your system. You don’t pay anyone to move them.
  3. Refunds for an upfront feeMost of Lumio’s claim deadlines passed in early 2025. Paying for a promised refund is a red flag.

08 · Quick answers

Lumio bankruptcy questions, answered

Is Lumio still in business?

No. Lumio filed for Chapter 11 on September 3, 2024, in Delaware. In November 2024, Zeo Energy bought its assets. A liquidating trustee is winding down the rest of the company. Lumio itself is not taking customers or sending crews.

Who bought Lumio?

Zeo Energy bought Lumio’s assets in November 2024, through the bankruptcy case. Zeo runs its own solar business, called Sunergy. It said it planned to finish installs that Lumio had promised to customers and lenders. If your install stalled, ask Zeo whether it is finishing yours.

Will Zeo Energy finish my Lumio installation?

Zeo said it planned to finish installs Lumio had promised to customers and lenders. Contact Zeo to ask if your project is one of them. Ask your lender too, and get dates and answers in writing before any work starts.

Do I still have to pay my Lumio loan?

Usually, yes. A lender holds your loan, and Lumio’s bankruptcy didn’t cancel it. Keep making payments, and ask your lender anything you’re unsure about. Before you send money anywhere new, check out the company asking. Skipped payments can follow you on your credit report.

Is my Lumio warranty still good?

It depends on which one. Warranties on the parts come from their makers and often still apply. Lumio’s own install warranty is at risk. Keep each repair quote and receipt, since you may need them later, along with your contract and serial numbers.

Where can I find Lumio’s bankruptcy case information?

Lumio’s claims agent, Stretto, runs the case website at cases.stretto.com/Lumio. The case number is 24-11916 in Delaware’s federal bankruptcy court. PACER has the full case file. Court notices come by mail, so watch for them.

When did Lumio file for bankruptcy?

Lumio filed for Chapter 11 on September 3, 2024, in Delaware’s federal bankruptcy court. It listed between $100 million and $500 million in debts. Zeo Energy bought its assets two months later, and its wind-down plan took effect in February 2025.

What is a liquidating trustee?

A liquidating trustee is the person put in charge of what’s left after a sale. The trustee sells what’s left, brings lawsuits and pays out any money it collects. Lumio’s trustee, Jeffrey T. Varsalone, took over in February 2025 and was still sorting claims in 2026.

Why did Lumio go bankrupt?

Lumio filed as high interest rates and policy changes squeezed home solar sales, Bloomberg reported. It came just weeks after SunPower’s bankruptcy. Lumio had laid off workers in early August 2024, about a month before it filed. Zeo Energy bought its assets that November.

How could you tell Lumio was in trouble?

Lumio laid off a wave of workers in early August 2024. It filed for bankruptcy about a month later, on September 3. Layoffs, closed offices and stalled installs are common warning signs. Spot them early, and never pay ahead of the work.

Will Lumio customers get any money back?

Maybe a little, but don’t count on it. About 950 claims were filed, and the liquidating trust is still sorting them while it pursues lawsuits. If money comes in, it goes to approved claims under Lumio’s plan. Watch your mail for notices from the trust.

How do I avoid scams after Lumio’s bankruptcy?

Expect callers who say they took over Lumio. Look the company up yourself before you talk money. You never need to pay to keep a maker’s warranty. Report pushy offers to your state attorney general, and check any installer’s license.

I bought from LIFT Energy or DECA. Is that Lumio?

Yes. Lumio was formed in 2020 from Atlantic Key Energy, DECA, LIFT Energy and Smart Energy Today, Solar Builder reported. If your contract names one of them, this guide applies to you. Check your papers for the lender and equipment brands.

Can I make a claim against my lender instead?

Maybe. When an installer misled you, a lender may share responsibility in some cases. A consumer lawyer can check your loan papers and tell you if you have a claim. Many offer a free first call. Keep paying while you find out.
