Does fixed beat your utility where you live?
Pick your Pennsylvania utility and enter your monthly kWh. The tool reads PA Power Switch, takes the cheapest fixed plan of 12 months or more (fees counted), and sets its 12-month cost against your price to compare and against the variable plans on the list.
Choose your utility and press the button. You get the cost of your price to compare, the cheapest fixed plan and the range of variable plans over 12 months, plus when your price to compare next changes.

Why does the June and December reset matter?
Your price to compare is what your utility charges for supply if you pick no supplier. It is not locked. A supplier plan only saves money if it stays under that number for the months you hold it. If a reset lifts the number, a fixed plan gains ground. If a reset drops it, the same plan can start to cost extra. Our page on the price to compare shows how to find yours on a bill.

Read across a row. In Duquesne Light's area, set the first price beside the December one before you decide how long a plan should run. "Cheapest fixed" counts plans of 12 months or more with no monthly fee and no cancel fee. UGI Electric's list is short, so it is not in the table. The December prices are early figures the utilities posted, so final prices can differ. A robot keeps the offer prices current from the list read October 24, 2026.
What does Pennsylvania require suppliers to tell you about a variable price?
Under 52 Pa. Code section 54.5 the disclosure statement must explain how a variable price is set and whether an introductory price will change. It is the page to read first. A supplier that lists a low variable price should show how it behaves after the first months, and PA Power Switch keeps a 24-month price history for each variable offer.
Open the 24-month price history on PA Power Switch before you pick a variable plan.
If you do nothing when a fixed deal ends, many contracts move you to a month-to-month variable price. That is the usual way a customer lands on one.
What does a fixed price cover, and what stays open?
One price per kWh for the whole term printed on your contract.
Your utility still bills delivery, and a fee or a new price can follow the term.
A fixed price does not cap your bill, since your use sets the bill. A plan under today's price to compare can sit above it after a reset, so mark the end date.
What happens in the last three months of a plan?
The PUC's rules make your supplier write twice. The first letter must come 45 to 60 days before the end, and the options letter at least 30 days before it.
- Day 1You sign. You may cancel within 3 business days of the disclosure statement, with no penalty.
- 45 to 60 days before the endFirst letter: will the plan renew, and at what price?
- At least 30 days before the endOptions letter: set the new price against your utility's.
- End dateChoose a plan, or go back to your utility's price.
How do you choose in five steps?
- 1Read your bill.
Find the utility name and your price to compare.
- 2Use the tool.
Look at the verdict for your use.
- 3Open the contract summary.
Look for the term, any fee and the price after the term.
- 4Enroll yourself.
Use PA Power Switch or the supplier's own site, not a door visit.
- 5Diary two dates.
The end of the term, and the next June 1 or Dec. 1 reset.

What does fixed rate electricity mean?
It means one supply price per kWh, printed on your contract, for the whole term. It does not cap your bill, because your use sets the bill. Your utility still bills delivery, and a fee or a new price can follow the end of the term.
Fixed vs variable electricity rates in Pennsylvania: what is the difference?
A fixed plan keeps one price for its term. A variable price can change, and the supplier's disclosure statement must explain how it is set and whether an introductory price will change (52 Pa. Code section 54.5). PA Power Switch keeps a 24-month price history for each variable offer, so open it before you pick one.
What happens if I do nothing when my fixed plan ends?
Many contracts then move you to a month-to-month variable price. That is the usual way a customer lands on one. Your supplier must write twice before the end, so use those letters to compare the new price with your utility's.
