The 4 things to know

  • Constellation is not your utility. The poles, wires and monthly bill stay with your utility.
  • Its Ohio plans on the chart are fixed. The lowest are 8 months long, so the end date comes fast.
  • Ohio does not publish complaints for each supplier. The BBB count below is the nearest public record.
  • Price is the weak spot. Its lowest price beat the price to compare in one of the five areas we checked.

Built on public data from the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) and its Energy Choice Ohio charts, Constellation's own Ohio contract, the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and the Ohio Administrative Code.

02 · Constellation rates

What does Constellation charge in Ohio?

Constellation lists two fixed plans in each area, one 8 months long and one 18 months long. The table shows the lowest price, the plan's length and the cancel fee next to each utility's price to compare. Prices are cents per kWh, power only. Duke Energy Ohio is left out until its new price to compare posts.

03 · Test a price

What would Constellation cost my home?

Type in the quote you were given and the kWh you use in a month. The tool lines your quote up with the default your utility charges. Constellation's price often runs above that default, so you see the gap in dollars.

  1. 1
    Pick your utility.

    It is on your bill.

  2. 2
    Type the Constellation price.

Use cents per kWh, such as 11.7.

  3. 3
    Add any monthly fee.

Type 0 if there is none.

  4. 4
    Type your kWh.

Find "kWh used" on a recent bill.

Its name is at the top of your bill.
Example: 9.99. Seen as $0.0999? Type 9.99.
Type 0 if the offer has no monthly fee.
It is on your bill. Not sure? Leave 1,000.

Pick your utility and type the offer's price. The answer shows here.

How we got this: all-in price = offer price + monthly fee ÷ your kWh. Each year = (price to compare − all-in price) × your kWh × 12. We assume the offer price and your use stay the same. Prices as of October 24, 2026, from Energy Choice Ohio.

The result is for the supply part only. What you type stays in your browser.

05 · The company

Who is the Constellation Energy company?

The state's chart lists the seller as Constellation NewEnergy, Inc., of Houston, Texas. Its Ohio contract says it is an independent seller of power, certified by PUCO, and not your utility. BBB has accredited it since May 14, 2013.

Constellation is a seller, whatever the plan is called. The name of your utility is printed on your bill. Ohio's rules bar a seller from posing as that utility.

06 · Plan end

What happens when a Constellation plan ends?

The contract we read, for the AEP Ohio area, sends a notice 45 to 90 days before the end. A second notice follows at least 35 days before. Each tells you the new product, price and length. If you do not say no, Constellation can renew you for a new term. You can leave with no fee in the first 90 days. After that, a $25 fee applies.

  1. Sign upWrite down the end date, price, term and the $25 fee. Keep the contract.
