Its workmanship warranty lasts 25 years. Its own crews do the installs. It lost points because it posts no prices or loan fees. It also has no production guarantee.

01 · Which Freedom?

Freedom Solar, Freedom Power, Freedom Forever: which is which?

Freedom Solar and Freedom Power are one company, based in Austin. Freedom Forever is a different company. It is the one in bankruptcy.

It is an easy mix-up. In April 2026, the Texas Attorney General asked four solar companies for records. The first name on the list read “Freedom Forever, LLC (Freedom Solar).” That company is Freedom Forever. It is based in California and Nevada. It is not the Austin company in this review. So that notice does not count against Freedom Solar.

03 · The score

Why Freedom Solar scores 82, our best national score so far

Freedom Solar got full marks in five of seven areas. All 18 missing points came from price and contract terms.

It posts no prices and shows no loan fees. That cost 11 points. It has no production guarantee, which cost 4. No outside company backs its warranty, which cost 3. Everything else scored perfectly, from its legal record to its certifications.

One record sits outside the score. In 2024, Freedom Solar LLC paid $425,710 to settle a federal claim about a pandemic payroll loan. The U.S. Attorney’s Office announced it. It was not about solar customers, so it does not change the score.

Same 100-point formula for everyone, built on public records. Freedom Solar pays us nothing. Ads never shift a score.

04 · Warranty

A 25-year promise on the work, 10 years on leaks

Freedom Solar backs its install work for 25 years. That is one of the longest promises we have seen. Roof leaks get 10 years.

The 25-year promise covers the job itself. That means the mounting, the wiring and how the system sits on your roof. The 10-year promise covers leaks where the system goes through your roof. There is no production guarantee. That would be a written promise about how much power you will make.

Some owners have SunPower panels. SunPower went bankrupt in 2024. Some of those owners said Freedom would not replace failed panels, microinverters or monitors for free. If you have SunPower parts, ask Freedom in writing what its warranty covers.

The backup question: a 25-year promise is only as good as the company behind it. Freedom Solar does not name an insurer or another company that would keep it if the business closed. No installer we review does yet. That is why that 3-point slot sits empty. How we score warranty backup.
05 · Complaints

82 complaints in three years: the four that come up most

Freedom Solar answered 29 of its 30 newest BBB complaints. Repair service and weak systems topped the list.

We read the 30 newest complaints, from January 6, 2025, to July 13, 2026. These four problems came up most:

  1. 19
    Warranty or repair service

After SunPower’s bankruptcy, several owners said failed panels, microinverters or monitors weren’t replaced free under the workmanship warranty.

  2. 17
System not working or making less power

Owners said their systems made noticeably less power than their contracts promised.

  3. 16
    Slow or no response

Voicemails and service tickets went unanswered for weeks or months.

  4. 16
    Sales promises not kept

Owners said they were promised the full tax credit or a wiped-out electric bill.

For a company this size, 82 complaints in three years is low. Freedom says it has put in more than 28,000 systems. Our formula only takes points when the BBB flags a pattern. There is no flag here. Still, get any promise about tax credits or a “zero bill” in writing.

06 · Who installs

Freedom Solar’s own crews install every job

Its warranty page says it plainly: “we do not subcontract your installation.” That is worth the full 12 points in our formula.

It also checks every certification box we score. It has NABCEP-certified installers, the top solar credential. It is a Tesla Premier Certified installer. It is a Generac PWRPartner Elite dealer, and it is REC Certified.

Those badges matter for batteries. Freedom sells Tesla Powerwall 3, Enphase and Generac batteries. It also sells EV chargers and generators. A certified installer can often handle warranty work on that gear directly.

07 · Price

Freedom Solar does not post prices. How to judge a quote

You only see Freedom’s price in a quote. That cost it 11 points, the biggest gap in its score.

Freedom offers cash sales, leases and home equity loans. Whatever you pick, ask for two things on paper: the total price and the price per watt. Then compare it with companies that post prices. Our price estimator makes that easy.

Watch for old tax-credit math. The 30% federal credit for buyers ended on December 31, 2025. Freedom’s current pages say so. That earned it 4 points for honest tax-credit claims. Some complaints say reps promised the full credit, so check your quote.

Thinking of seling your home someday? Ask how the warranty will carry over to the next owner. Get that answer in writing too.

08 · License

Texas and Florida, and a license that renews in December

Freedom Solar sells in Texas and Florida. Its Texas license is active but comes up for renewal on December 22, 2026.

The Texas license is EC-28621. It is listed under Freedom Power, doing business as Freedom Solar LLC. It puts Freedom in our Texas ranking, 3rd of 20. We will check it again after the renewal date. Its license page lists its numbers. You can confirm any of them on your state board’s website.

09 · Before you sign

Questions worth asking Freedom Solar

Freedom scores well. These questions cover the few gaps.

  1. What is my price per watt, with all fees? Freedom posts no prices, so get it in writing.
  2. What if my system makes less power than you estimate? There is no production guarantee, so ask what Freedom will do.
  3. What does the warranty cover for my parts? This matters most if you have SunPower equipment.
  4. Is every promise in the contract? Tax credits, bill savings and timelines belong on paper.
