04 · Payments

Do I still have to pay my Sunnova lease, PPA or loan?

Usually, yes. The bankruptcy didn’t cancel your contract. What changed is who runs your account.

Lease or PPAThe owner company changed
  • Keep paying under your contract
  • SunStrong runs most accounts now
  • Pay only after written notice of any change
LoanYour lender may have changed
  • A bankruptcy doesn’t cancel your loan
  • Check your latest statement for the servicer
  • Call that company with questions
Watch for fake “new account” letters. Before you change where you pay, call the number on an old bill or your contract. Never pay a stranger who calls you first.
05 · Claims

Can I file a claim in Sunnova’s bankruptcy?

Sunnova’s case agent, Kroll, runs the claims process. Start there for deadlines and your claim status.

  1. Call or look it upCall Kroll at (888) 975-5436, or use Sunnova’s case website.
  2. Check the deadlineEvery case sets a last day for claims. Ask what applies to you.
  3. Use Form 410The official proof of claim form. Attach your contract and receipts.
Paid a deposit for a home system you never got? Federal law moves up to $3,800 of that claim ahead of most others. It puts you higher in line. It doesn’t promise a payment.
Be realistic. In most solar bankruptcies, customers are paid last, if at all. A claim protects your rights, but it may pay little.

07 · Repairs and scams

How do I get my Sunnova system fixed safely?

Start with SunStrong for systems it services. For anything else, pick a licensed company with a long record. Then watch for these scam signs.

LicenseSearch your state’s contractor or electrician license lookup first.
RecordSearch the name with “attorney general” and “bankruptcy.” Find your attorney general through the National Association of Attorneys General.
PaperGet a quote in writing, with the warranty terms and the exact parts.
  1. They call you firstA stranger knows you had Sunnova. They offer to “take over your warranty” for a fee.
  2. They want money upfrontReal repair companies quote first. Never pay to keep a warranty you already have.
  3. They change where you payA sudden “new acount” for your lease or loan. Call the servicer at a number you already trust.
Got a suspicious offer? Report it to your state attorney general. Check any company before you sign or pay.
08 · Downtime credits

Can I get a credit when my Sunnova system is down?

Maybe. A Boston TV station looked at a Sunnova lease. It says customers won’t be charged when the system is offline because of Sunnova’s fault. Owners told reporters they paid for months of downtime anyway.

Estimate the credit to ask for

Ask for about $300 in credits.

How it works: your monthly payment ÷ 30 × days down. Your lease terms decide the real amount.
  1. Write down the datesNote when it stopped and every call you made.
  2. Ask in writingSend SunStrong your dates and the amount you want back.
  3. Escalate if ignoredFile a complaint with your state attorney general.
